Due to high demand, Zev scheduled an afternoon to meet a selective group of adoring fans.
Smiling with Judy: Bouncing for Shirley and Monica: Flirting with Brandy and charming Carol: Unfortunately we didn't get photos with Delia, Rick, Janet, and Janice. Next visit! Thanks, everyone, for coming down! Fun was had by all. :)
Zev has been entertaining us with milestone after milestone. He's sitting up unassisted for 12 seconds at a time, rolling 360's, spitting his pacifier (with purpose!), discovering a deep and abiding love of 60's music, putting his feet in his mouth, and making his very first fart jokes. I kid you not.
Ladies and gentlemen of the Academy, our next film in the Short Feature category is from an up and coming young auteur, an enfant terrible, if you will.
Entitled Ey! Ey! Eyyuu!, this Surrealist work begins contemplating darkness, and the void. A lone voice from off-camera engages the viewer directly. Gradually, the filmmaker adds additional detail establishing a setting and time, but really this could be happening anywhere, and its values are universal. Most of the action continues taking place outside the viewer's frame, building considerable tension until the dramatic reveal of our protagonist's identity. Note also the striking cinematography, which plays with light, shadow, and negative space, yet references both Classical and Cubist ideals of balance and composition.
The climax of the film comes when the protagonist, overcome with the drive for self-expression, tries to eat the camera, before receding once more into the void from whence he came.
Jim and Zev and I received a very generous shower gift, the Beaba Babycook and accessories. Despite its unfortunate name, I give the device five stars. While it isn't exactly difficult to steam fruits and veggies on the stove, then blend them in a food processor, the Beaba (I like to minimize my use of the phrase "babycook") makes the process a bit more convenient. Clean-up is really fast, and Zev gets his fruits and veggies right from the garden or farmer's market, no middleman. If we were talking about TheMiddleman that would be sad, but we're not.
Jes cooked up some peaches from a local farmer's market for Zev this morning. They were somewhat tart, somewhat sweet... Kind of what I imagine Jolly Rancher was going for when they developed their peach flavor, except, you know, the real thing. ;)
He definitely seems to be getting better at the mechanics of ingesting mushy, non-liquid food, although it sure helps to have some liquid on hand to wash it all down.
The mechanics of spoon-meets-mouth, on the other hand?
As Gramma Charla said, "Oh my gosh, if there was ever a baby who could use a Johnny Jump Up, it's this guy!!!" Bounce away, our squiggly, jiggly, wiggly, giggly figlet. Bounce away.
Zev has spent several evenings and most of the afternoon telling a most serious and important story. We're guessing it's an adventure starring a pack of dogs, a harrowing event, a bouncy high-speed chase, that tooth thing happening in his mouth, that food thing happening in his mouth, stingrays, space aliens, and A Message To My People. But that's just a guess.
